Brief Description |
NCIRE is the largest of the 86 nonprofit research institutes associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs nationwide. With over $56 million in annual expenditures, NCIRE administers the largest medical research program in the entire VA system at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Through NCIRE, over 200 MD and PhD principal investigators at SFVAMC work to improve health and health care for our veterans and active military personnel on the frontiers of many fields, including brain imaging, neurodegenerative disease, mental health, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and HIV/AIDS. Research highlights include traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disese, prostate cancer, neuro-AIDS, hepatitis, and geriatrics. Our investigators include biologists, biochemists, cardiologists, epidemiologists, getriatric researchers, immunologists, molecular biologists, and neuroscientists. Most are directly involved in patient care. |
