Brief Description |
The research mission of the Louis A. Johnson VA Healthcare System serves to complement our clinical emphasis on primary and secondary prevention of chronic illnesses that afflict our Veteran population. A robust research portfolio has been systematically developed to provide exciting and innovative approaches ranging from the most basic molecular to the largest scale of international clinical trials. Basic studies in animal modesl explore the relationship between emotional stress and heart disease; and molecular mechanisms responsible for reversing heart failure. Multi-centered national and international clinical trials explore novel therapeutic interventions designed to diagnose, prevent and treat cancer, heart disease, and stroke among our most vulnerable Veterans. These efforts are supported by a combination of intramural and extramural sources, including the NIH, CDC, VA and private industry. |
